The Cause Of Stigma Against People With Mental Disorders (healthy heart)

By Gen Wright

It is always difficult when a person close to you is suffering from a mental illness. The condition itself makes it hard for the person to relate to others but what makes it worse is the stigma people with mental disorders receive from society. Though more than a third of the world’s population suffers from various psychological disorders, for some reason, a lot of mental patients still get mistreated by supposedly normal people.

Social experts say that this is because not a lot of people receive education regarding the treatment of people with mental disorders. Because only a few people are aware of these certain conditions, most people just resort to using derogatory names such as “crazy” and “nutcase” when referring to people suffering from psychological disorders. Those in the field of mental health responded to this by labeling various disorders. They created names for each psychological disorder and conducted formal studies to have broader knowledge about mental health. They expanded their research and came up with official names for disorders and prescribed certain drugs that could help ease the suffering of mental patients.

While all of these steps were done to help mental patients and these steps did a lot of good in the field of mental health, there are also setbacks that occurred when more and more people continued to study in the field of psychology and psychiatry. Basic psychology was included in the curriculum of some schools so the number of those interested in the field grew by a mile.

However, as the field of psychology and psychiatry continued to expand, so did the stigma. Movies were made featuring stories of mental patients. There were hundreds of novels that revolved around people with disorders and most of the authors of these books often incorporate profound hyperbole in their works. This resulted to exaggerated conceptions of mental patients. Because of these works of fiction, the society has somehow created their own schema or understanding of certain disorders.

The incidents they have read in books and have seen in movies caused them to have an unrealistic generalization of people suffering from psychological conditions. The masses have been made to believe that most mental patients have been known to have caused violence to himself or to other people. This brought about the way of thinking that “crazy people are violent”. While this is not the case for most people, there is still a huge number of people who treats mental patients with such disgust that they refuse to even go near them. Discrimination is common especially in educational institutions. Young children with certain disorders do not get the treatment that they deserve as humans. It is bad enough that other students mistreat them but in some cases, even teachers do so as well.

For help regarding problems with mental illness, there are various mental health support centers that could provide apt treatments and other forms of therapies for patients. Therapy is extremely important in recovery because through this, patients can learn that they can also be accepted despite having a psychological condition.

Champagne Traditions

By kalebla

Traditionally, Champagne has always a way to celebrate milestones or toast the bride and groom on their marriage. Considered to be a flexible beverage, Champagne can be served with a meal or with dessert. For many years, this truly refreshing and exotic drink has been used as a way of celebration and just enjoying the times that lie ahead.

Champagne comes from the vineyards of the French region. If you get a bottle and notice Champagne imprinted on the label, you can rest assured that the bottle was produced in the vineyards of France. If you don’t get Champagne that was produced in the infamous French regions, you are pretty much just buying the standard sparkling wine. You should also make sure that the bottle is spelled “Champagne”, with a capital C. French manufacturers are very protective of this very name, and therefore are the only ones that are authorized to use it.

Champagne is made using three different types of grape - Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, and Chardonnay. Noir and Meunier are types of black grapes, while the well known Chardonnay is a type of white grape. The label on the bottle will signify what type of Champagne you are buying, so you’ll know what flavor to expect. There are also types of this wine that are a blend of different grapes, providing quite an exquisite taste to say the least. Much like sparkling wine, Champagne is very common with celebrations and such. Although it is actually considered to be a type of sparkling wine, Champagne is much better. You have to be careful where you buy it though, as a lot of manufacturers like to use cheaper grapes, which don’t taste the same. If you have ever tasted this wine before - you’ll know first hand what quality tastes like.

A lot of people prefer Champagne because of the bubbles that are known to spew forth once a bottle has been uncorked. The bubbles that spew from this wine are the result of tiny drops of liquid that are disturbed by the carbonic acid gas. Once the liquid is disturbed, the bubbles form and short out of the bottle. This is a natural reaction of the double fermentation process that can only be found with a bottle of Champagne.

The next time you have a celebration and need something to make the celebration a bit more interesting, you should grab a bottle of Champagne. Few things compliment a celebration like the bursting bubbles of a fine bottle. You can find quality Champagne at ABC stores or other stores that sell alcoholic beverages. Even though it may cost you a bit of money - when you pop the top you’ll be glad you bought it.

Health Insurance Only as good as your Agent

By michaelwilliam75

For many years I have wondered if I had only had a good agent would things have turned out better. I am writing this article to help people avoid making the same mistakes as I have. Several years ago I went online searching for a health insurance policy. The internet was new and there were very few Texas based companies offering health insurance online. I was directed through a google search to a company out of NewYork, NY. Back at that time there was no way to actually purchase online so I completed their questionaire and a salesman called.

The salesman began to ask me about health conditions and things they would ask you in person. I told him my only problem was I take a blood pressure medicine. He took all my information and gave me a premium that was about 30% cheaper than any quote I had gotten in the past. I few days passed and I received the application by mail for my signature. I sent it in as I was instructed to do by the agent and was quickly given a policy. This is where the nightmare began.

About a year later I had a heart attack and was hospitalized. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas began to ask my doctors for medical records. When my doctors sent the records I got a letter from BCBSTX basically accusing me of insurance fraud. The $200,000.00 plus in medical bills were denied. I found out later how the agent had gotten me such a low rate compared to everyone else. He did not tell Blue Cross about the blood pressure medicine I was taken; I had helped him by signing the application without reading it closely. Be very careful when choosing an agent.

I have found a very good and honest local agent here in Texas and would not trade him for the world. Here is my suggestion. You can buy your insurance online. Follow this simple rule. If your insurance agent is too busy or far away to meet with you in person to take the application; do not buy from him. Find one closer and not so busy.
